The following video compilation for Brian Doerksen’s song "Holy God" is like a compilation of footage that’s normally found in iWorship videos and film clips from the film "The Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson.

Lots of great visuals and moving footage to move viewers into an awe and respect for the worship that’s taking place in the song.

I wasn’t too familiar with Brian Doerksen’s work before hearing this video, but after visiting his website and learning more about his work in Christian music, I discovered I was a little more familiar than I expected.

Raised on the west coast of Canada in Abbotsford B.C., Brian Doerksen has always had a passion for expressing worship through music. In the late 90’s he lived in the UK for 2 years, where he trained worship leaders and songwriters in the UK and Ireland and produced ‘Hungry’ (Best Worship Project 2001 Praise Awards – Worship Leader Magazine) and “Come now is the time”. After returning to live in Canada , he continued to produce for Vineyard Music and then did his first recording with Integrity in Dublin , Ireland called “YOU SHINE” in 2002. Brian was presented with the “International Award” in 2003 by the Gospel Music Association in America .

Great to be re-introduced to his work and expand my experience of his music.

Spent quite a bit of time at the church last night working on the new set for our new sermon series titled “DISCIPLE”. We had originally wanted to project the letters “DISCIPLE” onto the back wall with people’s faces inside the letters like this.

Due to some funding constraints on projectors that would make this work we decided we just couldn’t swing it. We finally landed on Plan C which diverted away from the aesthetics directly related to series title and just a general look, which will be incorporated into worship slides and other graphics.

After 8 hours at the church last night, we got it all done. I created some wiring components to allow us to plug some regular lights into our light battens and control them from the board. We then hung paper lanterns and balls and panels to create a general look of randomness and color. We ended up with this:

UPDATE: Just received this picture from one of the people that was helping. She took it with her phone as we were putting things up. Nothing lit.

That’s me up on the lift. I’m waving at you (not really, but if I knew she was taking a picture I would have been!)

I guess it’s a pretty good problem to have in that I’m getting introduced to so much great music I can’t keep up. The latest album for me to review comes from Sarah MacIntosh and the album “The Waiters, The Watchers, The Listeners, The Keepers & Me”.

Perhaps the longest album title I’ve ever seen, but perhaps it’s a reflection of the depth of good music on this album.

After doing some quick background searching about Sarah I’ve found that she used to be the lead singer for a group called “Chasing Furies”, which you may be familiar. If so, then you’re aware of the great voice that Sarah has to share with us on her own album. I don’t remember ever listening to Chasing Furies, so my experience in hearing Sarah on this album is as a completely new listener.

One of the first thing that hits me as I listen to this album is the crystal clear vocals from Sarah who sings with such an ethereal and angelic voice, it’s really captivating. It’s one of my favorite qualities in a female artist and Sarah delivers with force and emotion on this album.

If you’ve been reading this blog long, you also know that one of my other favorite qualities is the lyrics of songs and how they speak to me. I love listening to songs where the lyrics start feeling like an extension of my own consciousness.

Listening to this album by Sarah, which I’ve been listening to now for quite awhile, her lyrics have morphed themselves into my prayers and praise that I lift up during my daily commutes in the car or while I’m working on my computer.

Amazingly, each song on Sarah’s album connects with me in some way. The 12 songs on this album include:

If you could hear my mother sing you would know how I came to sound like I do. My voice is most definitely hers. The music on the other hand might be described as Radiohead meets Sixpence None The Richer after listening to a bunch of Peter Gabriel.

Other artists that come to mind for me are Tiffany Arbuckle of Plumb, Sarah McLachlan, Jonatha Brooke, Christine Dente of Out of the Grey, Amy Grant, and Susan Ashton.

The new album, “Wonder of the World” by Rush of Fools sounds great and should be hitting stores on September 16th or around that date. Lots of new worship songs on this album release as well. You can pre-order the CD now on their website for $9.99.

One of the items on my “Bucket List” so to speak is to make it down to Atlanta and visit Buckhead Church for a long weekend. I was informed this morning by the man himself that Fee is rocking out worship at Buckhead today.

The picture above shows the perspective that I usually see during church. I’m the lighting tech lead for our services. I need to be careful that I don’t fall into the problems mentioned in Exodus 20:17, but I wish I had the lighting equipment at my disposal that you can see being used in the image above.

I found out earlier this evening that Word Label group recording artist David Phelps is in concert right now on the south side of Indianapolis. My good friend is the Director of Production and Technology, I really should have known about this concert earlier.

It’s amazing to me that they would schedule this concert on the same night that Casting Crowns is in concert in downtown Indianapolis.

This is actually the second concert that has happened at this church that I didn’t hear about until the very end. There’s no way to be updated about concerts there either. It’s a really large church, it’s almost like they’re private concerts. Too bad.

David Phelps is an amazing vocalist, would have been good to hear him live.
