The Identity Crisis 2011 Conference is for young adults (18-30) and will focus on exactly what it means to be who you are and who defines that perception of yourself.

The first EVER Identity Crisis conference is a two-day event geared toward young-adults (18 to 30) in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. It will feature speakers, break-out sessions, and praise & worship, all dedicated to bringing 20-somethings together to answer the question, “What does it mean to be me?”

This last week has been a hectic one for my family.  Both my wife and my son were down with the flu.  I’ve been trying to pick up some extra design jobs while my

wife was off work to help with this month’s expenses.  This is why I was completely surprised to be standing in the parking lot of my apartment complex in jeans and a t-shirt with a Nigerian pastor in full African garb and a well-dressed gospel singer Saturday morning praying.  I’ve known these guys for awhile and I do random media & video editing work with them when they need it.

Sheldon Mencer is a part of the gospel music trio, “Mencer, White & Cheney”.  The Nigerian pastor is Peter Adigwe who runs an orphanage in Benin City, Nigeria.  He is the guy in the upper right of the photograph above (pictured with the kids from his orphanage there).   They are as far apart in the world as two people can get but they are bonded with a common vision for helping the people & children of Nigeria come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  It isn’t a Compassion International run thing (though Compassion is a great organization).  It’s simply one group of people pulling out the stops and loving others unconditionally.

I love when people get together like this and partner up for something greater than themselves.  Music is great on it’s own, but without the mission it is worthless.  I think this is what defines a good musician from a great one.

Are they reaching beyond themselves?  Who is being impacted by the lives of these people?  How are they being impacted?

When I finish the video editing work that is pretty much bogging my system down right now, I’ll upload the video to youtube and post it here as a separate post.  It’s really an incredible work that I am privileged to be a part of myself.

I love VeggieTales, it’s always good to see them continuing to release more videos and family friendly entertainment to the market.

Okay, so it’s not Christian music. I’ll bet if you’re like me though, you love VeggieTales too, so I figured I’d share a little about their newest DVD. Plus, with the last name of Bean, I’ve got to like anything that promotes funny vegetables!

“Abe and the Amazing Promise” is now available in stores and you can order it online at a variety of sites.

Bob the Tomato tries to bring the Bible story of Abraham and Sarah and their wait for a promised son to life, but when spitting camels and a film crew of zany French peas get involved, everyone’s patience is tested! Will Bob pull everything together in time to teach a lesson? Whether they’re waiting on a promise from God or cookies from mom, kids will learn that while being patient is never easy, the reward is always worth the wait!

The DVD also features the musical “misadventures” of Blunders in Boo-Boo-Ville where Jacques (Larry the Cucumber) attempts to invent a way to bring back the boo-boo birds and discovers that taking time to do things the right way is the best way!

Also taking part in this episode is the popular radio show host, Delilah, playing the voice of Sarah.

The great episodes continue to roll out from the VeggieTales crew. DVD’s that are as great to watch for your kids as they are entertaining for parents and older siblings alike. I honestly think VeggieTales and 3-2-1 Penguins, also from Big Idea, has been the greatest original and creative content to come out of faith-based programs in my lifetime.

How are we doing?

I think the team did a fabulous job on making our set piece for this series. I’m amazed at how it looks and what it was made from. Let’s just say it’s made from stuff that’s far from “blingy”!
