This past Friday I had the immense pleasure to take my son and a couple of his friends up to Chicago to see Lecrae and a bunch of other artists that were part of The Unashamed Tour 2012. I’ll be honest, at first I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I was looking forward to me son getting to go and taking him, but really didn’t think this Christian rap music was for me. At least not anymore. When I was younger, guess about my son’s age or older, I really liked Christian rap myself. But that was when it was DC Talk, ETW, PID, Fresh Fish, Stephen Wiley, Danny “d Boy” Rodriguez and a few others. I was actually checking out the maps around The Congress Theater to see if there was a local Starbucks or other coffee shop I could sit at and wait while my son enjoyed the concert. Since my son is 12, my wife wasn’t too keen on the idea of me not being there with them. So I went and tried not to be quite the fuddy-duddy-37-year-old-uncool-dad. It wasn’t hard!
Here’s the line-up of performers:
- Propaganda (@Prophiphop, Facebook page)
- Thi’sl (@Thisl, Facebook page)
- Andy Mineo (@AndyMineo, Facebook page)
- KB (@KB_HGA, Facebook page)
- Derek Minor (@TheDerekMinor, Facebook page)
- Tedashii (@Tedashii, Facebook page)
- Trip Lee (@TripLee116, Facebook page)
- Lecrae (@Lecrae, Facebook page)
From Propaganda getting things started with a deeply intellectual lyric base to every other guy just continuing to lay on their own energy in flavor, I was lyrically and literally blown away by the straight-to-the-heart gospel message everyone one of them delivered to the crowd. Thinking back, I’m not sure I’ve ever been to another Christian concert that delivered the Word and the Message of God as boldly and clearly as I heard it on this tour.
I’ve uploaded all of the video clips I was able to grab while enjoying the concert to the embedded playlist below as well as a slideshow of a few still images. If you went to this concert in Chicago, or one of the other tour stops, let me know what you thought. If you’ve got concert photos you’d like to share, we’d love to see them and if you’ve got video already loaded online somewhere, just send us the link in the comments section.

God bless you for this. My phone died during the toronto concert. I'm happy i could re-watch these :)
It was a great concert! Glad I could help you relive it a little bit.
I was at the Chicago show too, amazing! Bold proclamation of the gospel – definitely a great experience.
