I just returned from a one-week work & witness trip to New Orleans. We were working with Desire Street Ministries helping rebuild a neighborhood just across the canal from the lower 9th ward area. The Lower 9th Ward area was the area shown most on the news with all the flooding. It’s amazing the amount of damage and destruction that’s still in the area. It’s been almost a year now since Katrina, and it all still looks like a disaster zone. It’s the closest I’ve been yet to an area that resembles visiting a 3rd world country.
Anyway, last Sunday we attended Carver Desire Baptist Church. It’s one of the churches right in the neighborhood we were working that’s been able to reopen. This church definitely still has the spirit and support of the One behind them that holds everything in His hands, and they shared that hope and encouragement with me and our group through their singing on Sunday morning. This authentic black gospel worship reminded me of listening to The Fairfield Four growing up, and that encouraged me to make them the Artist of the Week for Christian Music Fan.
