My friend Matt recently shared on his personal blog his opinions on Why Christians Shouldn’t Hold Political Office. It’s an interesting statement and one that immediately caused me to initially disagree with him. My initial thought is that we need MORE Christians in political offices. But Matt’s reasoning is based in scripture and honest reflection on the challenges facing a Christian holding such responsibilities. I was scrolling through some news feeds last week. It was filled with arguments. From fellow pastors to celebrity talking heads, everyone was arguing their point. I have opinions. Religious. Relational. Political. Personal. Often I’m asked what I think about something. Even this morning, a colleague sent a message asking for my opinion. It’s not like he didn’t know what he thought about the thing, he just wanted to know what I thought. For the most part, I keep my personal opinions to myself. My friends know my quirks and hang ups. After writing my last post about Derek Webb’s new album The Ringing Bell, I began surfing through The Ringing Bell website more and reading about Derek and the news articles. I stumbled across a recent article that featured him in USA Today and thought it was really interesting to find out more about his beliefs and opinions with comments like the one below.
