Hey, incoming college freshmen … I love all these pictures of you arriving on campus with your parents, decorating your dorm rooms, all that stuff. Keep posting. Brings back memories. What a big day in your lives. What a rush! I am so excited for you. Look, you’ve received a ton of advice already, but I want to offer some of my own. Take it or leave it, but at least think about it. Parents, feel free to share it with your kids if you’re too busy crying to tell them yourselves. 1. Congratulations! You are a (somewhat) independent adult now. Know what that means. ForRead More →

It’s an interesting statement and one that immediately caused me to initially disagree with him. My initial thought is that we need MORE Christians in political offices. But Matt’s reasoning is based in scripture and honest reflection on the challenges facing a Christian holding such responsibilities. As I shared in my comment on his post though, I do still believe more Christians should be in political office, but I also believe holding a political office should really be no different than any other job. Before the advent of DVR, I would get into a little communication trouble with my wife. Do you know what I’m talking about? She’d be recalling her day, spilling her heart in need of my attention only to realize that I had turned my head towards her but my eyes were on the TV. Truthfully, I wasn’t listening. Then, because she’s got a great sense of humor, she would launch into a wild story of mythical creatures with superhuman feats of strength; she was on to me.  The tables got turned on me. I was boarding a plane when it happened. The flight attendant wasRead More →

There’s a story told about John D. Rockefeller that I always found interesting. Rockefeller owned an oil company. During the late 1800’s, through to the turn of the century, he was the wealthiest man in America. The story is told that he had breakfast with a lifelong friend who was a life insurance salesman. They met together at a local restaurant for years. On this particular day, his friend read the headlines, “Rockefeller Purchases Largest Life Insurance Policy to Date!” His friend was incredulous saying, “We’ve been friends forever! I’ve had breakfast with you for years! You know I sell life insurance. Now I readRead More →

Every good story has that element that seems to reel you in, excited to see what happens next. When you read a good book, its a page turner. When you watch that movie that has twists and turns in the plot, it keeps you guessing. Sometimes it’s that favorite show that has you in suspense for the next episode. We all love stories and they’re happening all around us every day.  Life is like a story. There are seasons to your story. Sometimes it’s the good part where the guy gets the girl or the underdog wins out over the bully. The ending, in thoseRead More →
