For the last couple of weeks I’ve been working my way through a new devotional from Levi Lusko called “Take Back Your Life“. You may recognize his name from some of his previous devotional books (“I Declare War“, “Swipe Right” or “Through the Eyes of a Lion“) or because he’s the lead pastor of Fresh Life Church in Montana. I’ve really enjoyed Lusko’s writing and style. It’s very invitational for me and feels like I’m having a conversation with him as a writer and he’s just sharing perspective and insights from his experiences and the wisdom that God has given him to share with others.Read More →

Every good story has that element that seems to reel you in, excited to see what happens next. When you read a good book, its a page turner. When you watch that movie that has twists and turns in the plot, it keeps you guessing. Sometimes it’s that favorite show that has you in suspense for the next episode. We all love stories and they’re happening all around us every day.  Life is like a story. There are seasons to your story. Sometimes it’s the good part where the guy gets the girl or the underdog wins out over the bully. The ending, in thoseRead More →

While our family is away on vacation, I spent last Sunday morning at the beach. It’s the kind of Sabbath I don’t do often. In fact the last time I did was 3 years ago. While I was there, I walked down the water’s edge and looked at all the people. I breathed a prayer for each of them while thinking of my own church family. I stopped at a group of people who were building sandcastles. It hit me, these people are no different than me. Everyone of us are building sandcastles: some are intricate and detailed while others are simply just trying toRead More →

Whenever Keri and I are asked for parenting advice, I’ve always responded with the same statement, “Let them eat ice cream and buy good laundry detergent.” Here’s what I mean… There will be times when life seems overwhelming. No question. But in those moments, try to picture kids eating ice cream…they haven’t a care in the world. And because they are care free, there is undoubtedly sticky goodness running down their hands and onto their clothes. Here’s the deal. Let it happen. It’s fine.Throw it in the washer with confidence. Nothing so trivial is worth losing your mind over. Last night Emmett, who we wereRead More →

There’s immense value in finding folks who will love you through your “stuff,” people who know there’s more to your life than simply one moment in time. I was reminded this morning of that gift. Most of you know that I struggled as a teenager. I was trying to find my fit…I was listless. My parents, my church and my friends felt helpless. There was a couple in our church that worked with the youth group. They went on trips, they taught Sunday School and had students at their house, perpetually. They invested in tons of people. I’m just one of those people; one of theirRead More →
