Last night I should have been in bed early since I had to be up at 5:30am. You know what that means though, I wasn’t in bed. Instead, I got caught up watching inspiring and amazing audition performances for the various talent shows on TV like “America’s Got Talent”, “The X-Factor” (various locations and nationalities), “The Voice” and “American Idol”.
Lucky for me last night I stumbled across an audition performance from Lillie McCloud, a 54-year old grandmother of 7 (remember that when you watch her perform)! She performed a song made famous by CeCe Winans called “My Alabaster Box”. Watch her performance below.
Her performance on the merits of talent alone were incredible. On top of the talent in her vocal ability was the presence she commanded on the stage. After I watched her performance a number of times I began to think about the amazing opportunity artists like herself are able to take advantage. When an artist of her talent performs a powerful, Christian song like that the audience is being ministered to whether they know it or not. God is speaking through those lyrics to people who may have never heard the song, like Simon Cowell stated himself, one of the other judges, Kelly Rowland, who said it was one of her favorite songs. These true and powerful lyrics and the message of the song are making an impact, perhaps where there was no chance of the gospel being shared before. That’s powerful stuff to think about.
Kellie had a number of other powerful performances, but sadly didn’t make it to the final show for the final win. Luckily it appears she is still performing due to the exposure she enjoyed on the show and you can follow her on Twitter or on her official Facebook page.
