DAN, DAN THE MOVIEMAN: THE ABSOLUTE WORST OF 2019 OK, I promised this so I’m delivering it. Hate to be negative, but maybe my awful use of time can save you some time watching films that will only disappoint. But before I get to that list, a quick note on some new films that just recently hit theaters. 1917 – It’s great. Go see it. Bigger screen the better. Got some rough language, but incredible movie. JUST MERCY – Good. NOT great. The story is very compelling, but the language threw me and Brie Larson was terrible. Sorry, but what did she (as both anRead More →

From the Editor: Introductions! I’m happy to announce that a good friend of mine that has an absolute love and passion for movies has agreed to let me republish his thoughts on the movies he sees. He normally posts on Facebook, but I think his thoughts deserve a wider audience. He set a goal to see 250 different movies in the theater in 2019 and exceeded that goal. I believe his insights and thoughts on the films that are released are both entertaining, challenging sometimes and thought-provoking. Although we may not always agree on our thumbs-up/down ratings, I always agree that the thoughts he sharesRead More →

“Our Show” Wants (and Needs) to Be THE Next TV Show for ‘Tweens

I recently got an email from HearItFirst talking about a new kids show that’s trying to get started. It fills a definite gap in the TV landscape for shows for ‘Tweens that provides a little more solid foundation of Biblical principles for kids and families. I don’t know how many times I’ve gotten frustrated with shows my kids have been watching, even (and sometimes specifically) on Disney. Kids are being provided role models on our TV for being disrespectful to elders, uncaring to siblings and generally many of the traits most of us parents are hoping we can keep to a minimum in our kid’sRead More →

I recently read an article on PluggedIn.com that was an interview with Dean Batali, who works as a writer in Hollywood. Dean is a Christian and gets into some interesting answers on why the views of Christians and Christianity we see on TV aren’t what we’d consider correct. I’d encourage you to go read the article, “Faith, Film and … Dean Batali”, and then come back here and let me know what you thought. What’s your opinion of how Christians and Christianity are portrayed on television? What else are you looking for? Should we expect anything different? Is the Christian life imitating art or is artRead More →

Some of you may be aware that one of my other b5media blogs is Idol Stalker where we cover all things about the current season of American Idol as well as past contestants and winners. Sadly, I was not aware that two of the contestants that have moved forward to Hollywood are worship pastors at their local churches. One participant, Chris Sligh, is a worship leader at Seacoast Church in Greenville, SC. The other contestant, Sean Michel, is a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Bryant, AR. You can read the full-story here: Ouachita grad, on ‘American Idol,’ stirs talk about his faith SeanRead More →
