Possibly one of the best jazz Christmas albums, if not any Christmas album is the “A Charlie Brown Christmas” from the Vince Guaraldi Trio. Timeless jazzy interpretations of Christmas standards that served as the background music for a classic TV show that originally aired as a CBS television special that is as much of a standard for me this time of year as “It’s A Wonderful Life”. If you’re looking for another great album to put in the rotation this holiday season, this is a must have for the holidays to put you in the Christmas mood. Here’s a listing of the tracks on theRead More →

I’ve got to be honest, even after growing up in Kentucky and living in Nashville, TN for a while, I’ve never been much of a country music fan. There are a couple of groups and singers that I can enjoy some of their songs, but generally I’m not a country music fan. However, one singer that I really changed my opinion of is Johnny Cash and that’s actually because of the movie “Walk the Line” with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I’m not sure if that says much about me or the movie, but it doesn’t change the fact that the movie really introduced meRead More →

Jordin Sparks has now released her debut album and thankfully she’s consciously and actively maintained her innocence and wholesome image for the album. “I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to sing about,” Sparks said, “but I knew what I didn’t want to sing about.” That’s good stuff to hear in my opinion and I’m sure it reverberates with our readers too. That’s especially true of one the more personal songs on the album, “God Loves Ugly,” about overcoming insecurity about appearance. It may seem like an odd choice for the young beauty, but the song resonated with Sparks, especially after she endured some criticism fromRead More →

Its seems a little weird to be listening to Christmas music this early in the year, but with so many new Christmas albums coming out I figured I’d do what I can to let you all know about some of the albums that are available. In this case, maybe one you’d not have even thought about purchasing. I need to preface this post by saying that my all-time favorite Christmas album is “A Christmas Song” by Russ Taff. This album is by far the best Christmas album to just pop in your player and have playing in the background during the holidays or preparing forRead More →

We’re currently in a series entitled “Identity Theft” at church. Various topics about how the world robs us of who we are supposed to be in Christ. For example, last week was on “Mugged By the Mirror” and how we’re enslaved by image of our own expectations and those placed on us by others. This week is on guilt and how God comes to deliver us from the guilt of our lives and forgive us of our sins. Here’s our worship set: Special Song: “The Freshmen” by Verve Pipe Special Song: “East to West” by Casting Crowns Worship: “Hungry” Worship: “The Power of Your Love”Read More →
