Keri & I were sitting outside last week, drinking our coffee. It was a strange morning. The sun was shining brightly but the air was cold. She looked at me & said, “This is how I feel, too. The sun feels good, it’s warm…you almost forget what the temperature is but then the wind blows & reminds me…it’s cold.” It was a difficult week. I’m sure you’ve had them as well. Life can seem like a cold wind, chilling you to the bone. And if you rely on the wind to tell you how you feel, well, you’ll always be cold. But, if you closeRead More →

Remembering

Holy week is fastly approaching. It’s a time of remembering. It’s a time that the church sets aside to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. He was, and is, the sacrifice for sin. But let me tell you this; He wasn’t just a good man. He had compassion on people. Yes, He loved. He laughed and ate with friends because He was human. He felt sorrow when others hurt. He cried when his friend died. But there is something more to this good man, He held the power of sin and death in His hands and He robbed it. He took away the end-zone victory danceRead More →

You Count

Every decade the government takes a census. I’m sure it’s an absolute nightmare to gather all the data that make up the 125 million households in this country. My politician friends tell me that being counted for the census is vital in bringing funding for schools, hospitals and senior centers. I suppose it’s important to fill out the form correctly but when the form came to our house I thought, “Paperwork equals details”, then I asked Keri to fill it out. It made me think…you are more than just a number in a survey. You are a uniquely designed individual, more than a statistic. ButRead More →

More Than a Glimpse

If you were to go into our house and look on the walls, you would see pictures of our family. You would find pictures of our wedding, family outings and those pictures would document our lives together. But those pictures would only be a glimpse into our lives. It would only capture moments, not the whole picture. I think we do this with God. When we’re feeling sad or things aren’t going our way, we see God as angry or distant. Maybe you see God as the pushover grandfather who doesn’t get angry and never punishes you for eating candy before dinner. Both are incorrectRead More →

Over the years I’ve heard countless people tell me they want to be in “God’s will.” They search and search for it…as if it’s hiding somewhere. Most times I see people toiling away at life, hoping they find God in some sort of cosmic game of hide and seek. But what if you were in God’s will and all this time you’ve been focused on the wrong things? The ‘if only’ mentality is killing us. The ‘I should have…’ is simply regret. The ‘If life was different I would…’ is just the blame game. You have one life to live and you have today toRead More →
