There are those Christian bands which facilitate worship that’s accessible to generations of worshipers at once. And there are those which venture to the cutting edge of popular music in the areas of style and creativity. But few bands combine sincerity, sing-ability and musical chops like Dutton. The worship band known as Dutton has been playing together since early 2004 when front man Logan Walter pieced together a group to play with him at University Baptist Church (located on Dutton Avenue in Waco, Texas). UBC, founded in the mid-1990s by David Crowder and a collection of forward-thinking 20-somethings, needed a steady back-up band when theRead More →

For those who love the music of Michael Card and those who just are in love with scripture, Michael Card has been hosting a radio show for seven years now that not only featured his music but also some really in-depth Bible Study.  It’s not surprising since most of his music is quite scripture oriented.  It’s also published as a podcast here and you can check out the extensive archives here. Guests on the show range from Steve Green, Sara Groves and Andrew Peterson to quite a few other biblical scholars. I’ve been listening off and on for about two years myself and have reallyRead More →

With the bright colors of fall, the cooler weather, and the smell of things baking in the oven (albeit it’s just a candle so far), I tend to fall in a bit of a warm & welcoming melancholy mood. The kind of melancholy that makes you want to cuddle up next to someone you love or have a bonfire and stay up late telling stories. Of all the songs that speak most to me around this time of year, there is one that keeps coming back to me. It is by Fernando Ortega called “This Time Next Year” on his album “Storm”  Check out theRead More →

Wendy Francisco is no stranger to Christian Music. After all, she is married to Don Francisco who penned “He’s alive!” often played every year around Easter Sunday. This video has been floating around the web for the last month or so, but I thought of it this morning because this last week my family got a new puppy, an eight week old red cocker spaniel pup we named “Rogin” (after the red dwarf in Chronicles of Narnia – The Last Battle). This now makes two dogs. ;) As a side note, The Francisco’s website has about 135 free songs you can download for free fromRead More →

I grew up on Christian Music. I am not that old. I’m not yet thirty (so the picture is my dad with Michael Card, not me) but I remember twenty-five years of Christian music. I was at the first Cornerstone Music Festival in 1984 albeit I was three years old. A few months later, my dad and I moved to Jesus People USA in Chicago and lived there for about eight months. At bedtime growing up, my dad would play different songs on his guitar for me in place of the traditional storytime. My mom on the other hand was a Choir director at theRead More →
