DAN, DAN THE MOVIEMAN: THE ABSOLUTE WORST OF 2019 OK, I promised this so I’m delivering it. Hate to be negative, but maybe my awful use of time can save you some time watching films that will only disappoint. But before I get to that list, a quick note on some new films that just recently hit theaters. 1917 – It’s great. Go see it. Bigger screen the better. Got some rough language, but incredible movie. JUST MERCY – Good. NOT great. The story is very compelling, but the language threw me and Brie Larson was terrible. Sorry, but what did she (as both anRead More →

From the Editor: Introductions! I’m happy to announce that a good friend of mine that has an absolute love and passion for movies has agreed to let me republish his thoughts on the movies he sees. He normally posts on Facebook, but I think his thoughts deserve a wider audience. He set a goal to see 250 different movies in the theater in 2019 and exceeded that goal. I believe his insights and thoughts on the films that are released are both entertaining, challenging sometimes and thought-provoking. Although we may not always agree on our thumbs-up/down ratings, I always agree that the thoughts he sharesRead More →

Here’s my review of a recently released film titled “Like Arrows”. Although it is a average length for a feature movie, I’m not sure it comes across as a feature film instead of something more like an educational video or documentary of sorts. Before I dive in, here’s the official press release and movie synopsis: When conflict, rebellion, and resentment overwhelm their family, Charlie and Alice are forced to rethink their parenting strategy. In the process, they realize how critical intentionality and focus are when shaping and molding young lives. FamilyLife’s first feature film explores the challenges and joys that come with raising children. ThroughRead More →

It’s been an absolutely crazy past couple of weeks for me and I’m overdue in getting this blog post published on a video titled “Patterns of Evidence – Exodus”. The video is the exploration of a filmmaker, Timothy Mahoney, as he experienced a personal crisis of faith as more and more scholars and even some religious figures make public statements of the biblical story of Exodus not being a factual account, but more of a moral fairytale. His own challenge was that if the account was not factual, doesn’t that cast doubt upon the validity of the rest of the Bible in its entirety? IRead More →

If you’ve been alive over the last decade or so during the holiday season you’re probably familiar with the seeming effort to remove “Christ” from Christmas and to replace it with “Happy Holidays”. You may also have experience with Christians forsaking Christmas as well because of the historical associations of the holiday with pagan rituals. Who’s on the right side of the argument here? Kirk Cameron, has a movie coming out in theaters this Friday called “Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas” and it looks like it’s both a fun and perhaps somewhat irreverent look at the behavior of people in and out of the church asRead More →
