Amanda Stott has a great voice, and her 2011 album, Place to Start Again, showcases it well. The Canadian singer moved to Nashville a few years ago to pursue a solo career, following a self-titled country debut (2000) and pop follow-up (Chasing the Sky, 2005). Released independently, Place to Start Again takes Stott in a new direction, artistically and creatively. It’s the right direction. This faith-centered collection of songs is a simple affair, framed mostly by piano and strings. Stott takes listeners on a tour of the highs and not-too-lows of her spiritual journey (even when singing about tough times, she never gets too downbeat – an alternateRead More →

There’s a new VeggieTales DVD that’s on the market now and this one is a new Christmas story titled “Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving”. Featuring all-stars Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, this new seasonal DVD tells the story of Saint Nicholas, the world’s greatest giver, and introduces Nicky the Pepper, the first new VeggieTales character in five years. Bonus features include an original new song by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Matthew West, “Give This Christmas Away,” performed by West and Grammy Award-winning artist Amy Grant. “VeggieTales Christmas releases are fan-favorites and Saint Nicholas is sure to become an evergreen title,” said GregRead More →

I guess it’s a pretty good problem to have in that I’m getting introduced to so much great music I can’t keep up. The latest album for me to review comes from Sarah MacIntosh and the album “The Waiters, The Watchers, The Listeners, The Keepers & Me”. Perhaps the longest album title I’ve ever seen, but perhaps it’s a reflection of the depth of good music on this album. After doing some quick background searching about Sarah I’ve found that she used to be the lead singer for a group called “Chasing Furies”, which you may be familiar. If so, then you’re aware of theRead More →

Got you didn’t I? I’m not referring to Natalie Merchant actually attending church, I’m not sure if she does or not, but she was in church this morning at our church. Today’s message was about “Join the Team: Helping Others in Need” and was focused on compassion. Before the message, our worship pastor intro’d a song and talked about how he’d grown blind to some of the needs around him everyday because they’d just become soRead More →
