The world of Christian music lost a real visionary and artist recently. Larry Norman passed away in Salem, OR earlier this year. Before he died he dictated this note to friends, fans and family, as it was recorded by Allen Fleming: I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God’s hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home. My brother Charles is right, I won’t be here much longer. I can’t do anything about it. My heart is tooRead More →

I just got done reading a story in ChristianityToday that just irritates the fire out of me and makes me sick. It’s my understanding that there weren’t any lawyers involved in the agreement and I get the impression that the young group was trying to pullRead More →

Steven Curtis Chapman can probably be called the father of contemporary Christian music, although you’d probably have to put him and Michael W Smith right up there together. Chapman shares this in an article about his experiences in the early days of Christian music. “When Sparrow, the label I was on, was purchased by EMI in the early 1990s, the folks at EMI were able to say, “We don’t even pretend to understand fully how this music works, but people are connecting with it and we respect you,’ ” Chapman said. “But they gave us the resources to make the music sound better.” Though ChapmanRead More →

Back in the 90’s when I was a college kid I had the experience of seeing Phil Keaggy perform in concert at my college. The concert was sometime in the winter months, which for Ohio could have been any of about 9 months. However, the impact of the time of year plays into what happened at the concert. Keaggy was supposed to arrive with the rest of his band, but their flights and most of his equipment got delayed due to the weather and he arrived on campus by himself with just his guitar and some simple audio equipment. The talent that arose from theRead More →
